The sense of well-being in a room comes from a successful combination of various factors that create a harmonious overall atmosphere. In this post, I’d like to discuss a few key factors:

It’s always better in a team

. Grouping individual items into a cohesive unit can be helpful. In a stylish apartment, for example, we repeatedly encounter small or larger collections of furniture and accessories, —arranged in such a way that they evoke a feeling that stirs emotions in the viewer.

Your spirit lives in your home

Many people think that the colors of the medina in Marrakesh and the lights of the Aegean Sea in Greece are crucial for creating an atmospheric space with a distinctive ambiance.

In my view, this is far too simplistic and simply isn’t true. What matters much more is the person who created the space and their thoughts on its use, target audience, and impact. You can sense that person’s spirit in the individual details and recognize their sources of inspiration and what draws them in. It’s not the grand gestures that set the mood of a space, but rather the sum of all the tiny details that shape the whole. So be aware that you and your mementos are an important part of the atmosphere.

It’s better to start with a glass of wine than with a full shopping cart

To get off to a good start with your interior design, you’ll need: a chair, a table, a bottle of wine, a glass, and some writing supplies. Sit down in the chair, open the bottle of wine, and pour yourself a glass. The ideas will come on their own. Start jotting down your initial ideas in bullet points. They don’t have to be specific yet, and they can even be a bit out there. Of course, it’s even better if you do this as a team. You can also set the task aside for a while. You’re sure to come across new ideas later that you hadn’t thought of before. Decorating a room is a process, not a one-day fling. If you’re reading this post, you’ve probably already been working on it for a while, and maybe you’ll soon be ready to put your ideas into action.

If you go from store to store, you run the risk that the individual items won’t complement the rooms—instead, they’ll end up competing with one another too much. As a result, the room becomes so cluttered with objects that it’s hard to experience it at all. That’s why we recommend first creating an overall design concept—or having one created for you—and then putting it into action. You can learn more about creating overall design concepts here.

It’s the small details that matter

. Every object and every product has its own identity and spirit. To avoid upsetting these spirits, you need wisdom, patience, and a gentle touch. If you succeed in performing this shamanic dance, you’ll be rewarded with an atmosphere that is unique and perfect. Here you’ll find tips on the small details you should keep in mind.

Have fun decorating and dancing!
