design & material

The Danish design studio Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen developed the chair after years of research. Hemp and seagrass, a type of algae, are highly renewable and durable. They define the look: you can see and feel the structure of the shell. Beechwood legs and a cream-colored footrest keep the overall appearance light and serene. In 2024, the design received several awards, including Green Idea of ​​the Year (Bo Bedre's Design Awards).

With a seat height of 75 cm, you sit at counter height; the armrests provide support, and the footrest offers a place to rest your feet. Weighing only 7.1 kg, the chair is easy to move. The collection is designed for disassembly and recycling, allowing the components to be reused in new production.

Die Mat-Chair-Kollektion umfasst eine Hanfschale, die in einem eigens entwickelten Kompressionsverfahren gefertigt wird. Das Gestell von Mat Chair besteht aus FSC™ zertifiziertem (FSC-C163461) Buchensperrholz und Buchensperrholz aus anderen kontrollierten Quellen oder aus pulverbeschichtetem Stahl in den zwei Farboptionen Cream oder Black. Die Barversionen mit Holzgestell verfügen über einen Fussring aus pulverbeschichtetem Stahl für zusätzlichen Komfort und Stabilität. Die Schale wird aus einer einzigartigen Mischung aus 75% Hanffasern gefertigt, während die restlichen 25% aus einem eigens entwickelten, recycelbaren Bico-Bindemittel bestehen. Die Seaweed-Variante besteht aus 69% Hanffasern, 6% Seegras (Seaweed) und 25% Bindemittel. Bei Rückgabe an Normann Copenhagen am Ende ihrer Lebensdauer können sowohl Schale als auch Gestell recycelt werden.
