The Danish studio Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen designed Mat over years of development; "Mat" stands for "Materials." The fibers of the shell openly display their natural look and feel. Hemp and seagrass are renewable and durable. The chair is designed for disassembly and recycling; its components can be reused in new productions. The lacquered steel legs provide a calm and stable framework.

Die Mat-Chair-Kollektion umfasst eine Hanfschale, die in einem eigens entwickelten Kompressionsverfahren gefertigt und auf pulverbeschichtete Stahlbeine montiert wird. Die Schale wird aus einer einzigartigen Mischung aus 75% Hanffasern gefertigt, während die restlichen 25% aus einem eigens entwickelten, recycelbaren Bico-Bindemittel bestehen. Die Seaweed-Variante besteht aus 69% Hanffasern, 6% Seegras (Seaweed) und 25% Bindemittel. Bei Rückgabe an Normann Copenhagen am Ende ihrer Lebensdauer können sowohl Schale als auch Gestell recycelt werden.
