design & material

The Danish studio Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen designed Mat over many years of development. "Mat" stands for "Materials": The shell is made of hemp fibers, and in the second version, seagrass, a type of algae. According to the manufacturer, the materials have a lower environmental impact than the industry standard. The chair is designed for disassembly and recycling, so that the BauParts can be reused in new productions. It is manufactured in Denmark.

comfort & function

The armrests provide support while seated. The seat height of 75 cm is suitable for bar counters approximately 100 cm high. Weighing only 7 kg, the chair is easy to move. In 2024, Mat was awarded Product of the Year (Seating category, Mix Awards) and the MetropolisLikes Award (Furniture category).

Die Mat-Chair-Kollektion umfasst eine Hanfschale, die in einem eigens entwickelten Kompressionsverfahren gefertigt und auf pulverbeschichtete Stahlbeine montiert wird. Die Schale wird aus einer einzigartigen Mischung aus 75% Hanffasern gefertigt, während die restlichen 25% aus einem eigens entwickelten, recycelbaren Bico-Bindemittel bestehen. Die Seaweed-Variante besteht aus 69% Hanffasern, 6% Seegras (Seaweed) und 25% Bindemittel. Bei Rückgabe an Normann Copenhagen am Ende ihrer Lebensdauer können sowohl Schale als auch Gestell recycelt werden.
